AB03. Intermittent androgen suppression: current status
نویسنده
چکیده
Percutaneous nephrolithotomy has revolutionized the ability of the urologist to remove large burdens of renal stones over the last 15 years. In the United States, it has largely replaced open stone surgery for the treatment of large sized stones. One of the key factors in optimizing outcomes for this procedure is accurate percutaneous renal access. The guiding principles for effective renal access will be reviewed in this session.

A Mathematical Model of Intermittent Androgen Suppression Remedy for Prostate Cancer
Androgen suppression has been the principal modality for treatment of advanced prostate cancer for several decades. Although the tumor response rate to androgen deprivation is initially high, almost all patients relapse within several years due to proliferation of androgenindependent tumor cells. Since Bruchovsky et al. suggested in animal models that intermittent androgen suppression can prolo...
متن کاملIntermittent Androgen Suppression as a Treatment for Prostate Cancer: A Review.
Prostate cancer continues as the most common malignancy in men in the United States, with a large number of patients presenting with advanced disease. The current treatment for metastatic prostate cancer, permanent androgen withdrawal, is palliative. Patients treated with permanent androgen withdrawal usually relapse and die secondary to prostate cancer's ability to progress to an androgen-inde...

BACKGROUND Castration resistance occurs in most patients with metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer who are receiving androgen-deprivation therapy. Replacing androgens before progression of the disease is hypothesized to prolong androgen dependence. METHODS Men with newly diagnosed, metastatic, hormone-sensitive prostate cancer, a performance status of 0 to 2, and a prostate-specific a...

The growth of prostate cancer cells is driven by androgens. Thus, androgen deprivation, is one of the main treatment modalities in the management of prostate cancer. Historically, bilateral orchiectomy, which achieves 95% reduction of testosterone levels within 3 hours, was the only effective androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). In the 1980s, luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone agonists (LHRH-...
متن کاملIntermittent versus continuous androgen deprivation therapy in advanced prostate cancer.
Intermittent androgen deprivation is increasingly employed as an alternative to continuous life long androgen deprivation therapy for men with advanced or recurrent prostate cancer. Two recent phase III trials have clarified the benefits of intermittent therapy. In men with non-metastatic disease with PSA recurrence after definitive local therapy, intermittent therapy showed equivalent survival...
